Herald Confirms, Northeastern student found murdered

UPDATE: The woman found dead in a Mission Hill apartment this morning was confirmed to be a Northeastern student, according to the Boston Herald (Northeastern student found slain in Mission Hill apartment).

A 22-year-old Northeastern University student was found murdered in her Mission Hill apartment yesterday morning, shot in both legs and in the chest, police and a source said.

Investigators still are trying to determine whether Rebecca Payne of Connecticut was randomly targeted and robbed, or knew her assailant, a police source said.

Deputy Superintendent Thomas Lee said the woman’s body was discovered about 6:50 a.m. by the manager of the apartment building at 170 Parker Hill Ave. A source said her door had been left open.
